It was a special evening for Jacob and his family, and Mr Davis and Mr Allen were also there to witness this special milestone. Wishing you all the best, Jacob!

Netball Waitakere Season – Waiōrea Senior A had a VERY successful season

Being moved up a grade halfway through the season, and only losing 1 game ALL season (by 1 point). They battled it out in a tough semi-final against Kaipara College (for the 3rd time this season) and won which secured our spot in the final dance against Massey High Senior A. It was an intense game right to the last buzzer but our girls walked away with the win, final score being 25-17. First place winners for WASSC Senior Grade C.

These girls had amazing sideline support week in and week out, in all weather conditions, and that became one of their biggest drives. They all improved their game individually which made for a successful season collectively.

Netball Waitakere Season – WSCW Year 9 Gold

What an incredible season for the Year 9 Gold netball team! We were blessed with fantastic weather throughout, with only a few rainy days that didn’t dampen our spirits. The team kicked off the season strong with 3 impressive wins during grading, setting the tone for what was to come.

As the season progressed, the girls dominated the D-grade round robin, winning all 5 games with ease. This earned us a well-deserved promotion to C-grade, where we made it all the way to the final, ultimately finishing as runners-up.

Each player brought their A-game week in and week out, putting in their best effort on court. What stood out the most was their exceptional attitude, eagerness to learn, and dedication to growing as netball players.

A huge thank you to the supportive parents who cheered us on from the sidelines every week—you made all the difference! We’re proud of the team’s hard work and teamwork, and can’t wait for what’s to come next season!

Girls 1st XI Football

“There’s always a buzz heading into tournament week – nerves, excitement, and the unknown. What’s certain is the huge effort and planning that’s gone in. A big thank you to our school, families, and supporters who make it all possible.

Our team is a great mix of youth and experience, united by a love for the game. The season brought moments of brilliance and tough tests. These challenges built character and resilience – qualities we carried into the tournament.

Day One:
The fun begins as our road trip unfolds, noise levels elevate, voices are heard belting out favorite tunes, lots of laughter, games are played, these moments can only put a smile on your face. Hamilton here we come!

We arrive and kick off strongly with a 4-0 win over Kristin School, all goals in the first half. Our second group match against Woodford House was a battle – We dominated long stretches but couldn’t convert, going down 2–1. Still, a solid day of football.

Day Two:
A draw or win was needed to progress. Waitara High gave us a scare with an own goal against the run of play, but we fought back for a 1-1 draw, securing a spot in the top round of 16. Next up: Matamata College. We came prepared, kept a clean sheet, and scored a classy team goal to win 1-0. Quarterfinals here we come!

Day Three:
Bethlehem College was physical and imposing, but we matched them with skill and composure. Despite creating great chances, we lost our opportunity after a late & tough penalty call. We gave everything – no regrets.

To blow off steam, we hit the driving range and unofficially formed the WSC not-so-pro golf team. Even All Black Cortez Ratima wanted a photo with us!

Day Four:
Disappointed but determined, we set our sights on a top 5 finish. Hauraki Plains had no answer – we scored 7 goals in a dominant display. Fullbacks scored, positions shifted, and smiles were everywhere. Later, we celebrated with some retail therapy and dinner.  Team spirit on full display.

Day Five:
Final match vs St Cuthbert’s. We controlled possession, broke through their defence, and scored two great goals. Another clean sheet sealed a 2–0 win and 5th place out of 32 teams—a fantastic result! I am super proud of our performance across the week, well done team.

Secondary school sports are very unique, a golden time and something that needs to be cherished. We talked about legacy and culture at the beginning of the season. What we leave behind is as important as where we are going. So on that note a huge thank you to our Year 13s – Kaya, Charlotte, and Hannah. You’ve been incredible teammates and role models, showing positivity, courage, skill and kindness every step of the way.

Girls football at WSC is on the rise. The future looks bright, and we’re ready to challenge for even greater honours.

Up the Eels!

Boys First XI Football

Our Western Springs First XI Boys proudly represented the school at the annual Malcolm Cowie School Football Tournament at Fred Taylor Park. The competition brought together strong teams from across the country, and our players rose to the challenge with determination and skill.

The team played with heart and commitment throughout the tournament, demonstrating excellent teamwork and sportsmanship. Their efforts were rewarded with a place in the top half of the tournament—a fantastic achievement against such high-level opposition.

Beyond the results, the tournament was a valuable experience for all involved. Players enjoyed the opportunity to test themselves against quality teams, and the spirit of football on and off the field made it a memorable event. Congratulations to the First XI for their hard work, good behaviour and positive attitude. Thank you to Greg and Raneel for coaching, parent supporters, and organisers who made the tournament such a success. Special mention goes to chief morale booster, linesman and entertainment officer Leo M.

Thanks also to our sponsors – Mt Albert New World, Westmere Butchery and Point Chevalier McDonalds.
