Te Ahurea Tino Rangatiratanga is a significant Māori Performing Arts event for Auckland Secondary Schools. This year, this event was held on the North Shore, at Westlake Boys High School – Te Kura Tuarua o Ngā Taitamatāne o Ururoto.
Since the event’s inception in 1996, this event has consisted of the best of Auckland Secondary Schools Kapa Haka coming together performing and affirming Te Reo and Tikanga Maori, as well as showcasing our youth and the wonder of Maori Performing Arts, the indigenous culture and traditions of Aotearoa New Zealand.
Our kura showcased two performing groups! With a group performing in front of a packed-out venue, on both the Friday 18 October, and Saturday 19 October respectively. This year, the decision was made to make the event a non-competitive one, as all the Auckland Secondary Schools came together to produce a kapa haka showcase, with a ngahau feel.
This campaign marks the end of road for a number of the rōpū as this year’s 13 cohort contributed 18 performers for this campaign, and many more performers over the years. We would like to acknowledge their efforts, and wish them well on their haka journeys in the years to come. Lastly, we would like to acknowledge the immense effort from tutors, whānau, kaiako, and all students that worked hard to ensure a successful campaign, all the way to the end. Whāia te manu mātauranga.
