Western Springs College brothers, Benaiah Su (Year 12) and Daequan Su (Year 11), have recently achieved great successes at the Auckland Track & Field Championships, which were held on 3rd & 4th February 2024 at Mount Smart Stadium.
The feature image shows Benaiah in action for his club (Auckland City Athletics Club), where he got Silver in the Under-18s High Jump competition with a height of 1.70 metres (his Personal Best [PB] in 2023 was 1.73 metres).
Benaiah received the following medals and placings at the Auckland Track & Field Championships:
- Shot (5kg) – Gold – 9.86 metres
- High Jump – Silver – 1.70 metres
- Long Jump – Silver – 6.23 metres (PB)
- Triple Jump – Silver – 11.11 metres (PB)
- Discus 1.5kg – Bronze – 30.21 metres (PB)
- 100m Finalist – 12.00 seconds (PB)
Daequan received the following medals and placings in the Under 16 competitions at the Auckland Track & Field Championships:
- High Jump – Silver – 1.60 metres (PB)
- Long Jump – Silver – 5.64 metres (PB)
- Triple Jump – Silver – 10.93 metres (PB)
- Discus 1.25kg – 4th – 35.06 metres (PB)
- 100m Finalist – 5th – 12.33 seconds (PB)
In addition, Daequan won a Gold Medal (14 years age group) in the Boys Hurdles competition (14.9 + 0.4 m/s) at the North Island Colgate Games on 5th January 2024. Daequan also received a 4th placing for Juniors at the NZ Secondary School Track & Field Championships competition in Christchurch in mid-December 2023.
