Annual Beach Picnic:

As we accelerate towards year’s end I’m reminded of one of the most delightful features of our school year at ‘Springs which is the annual beach picnic that we hold for Year 9 and 10 students at Long Bay Regional Reserve.

This year we have the picnic scheduled for Thursday, December 5th.  Our teachers are organised (all of us) with BBQ’s, games, equipment and swimming gear. Our buses are booked to get us to Long Bay and back, it’s high tide at 2.30 pm in the afternoon and we have our fingers crossed for an absolutely brilliant, sunny, calm summer day.

This is part of our scheduled school year and it is an expectation that all attend.  All of you have paid the $20 cost, which covers both transport and the BBQ food that we supply.  Permission was granted at enrolment time for students, so parents – no forms to fill in!

Students should arrive at school at the normal time of 8.45 am on the day of the picnic and we will arrive back at school by 2.45/3.00 pm when students will be dismissed to make their way home in the normal manner.

Remember, too that our junior prizegiving is the day after – Friday December 6th at 10.00 am in the school hall.

If the weather forecast is unsuitable for our picnic we will cancel it and Thursday will operate as a normal school day. We will notify students of this by midday on the day before (Weds 4th) so that there are no surprises on the day.

Waiorea 30th Anniversary:

This weekend marks the 30th anniversary of the founding of Nga Oho, the wharenui of Nga Puna O Waiorea.  There are a range of activities taking place on Saturday, November 30th from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm on the Waiorea campus to which all are invited.

Remember too, the Rumaki Prizegiving on Tuesday December 3rd at 6.00 pm in the new gymnasium.

Year 9 & 10 Prizegiving:

As mentioned in the piece above regarding our annual picnic, this year’s Year 9 and 10 prizegiving will be held in the school hall at 10.00 am on Friday December 6th.  Parents, whanau, grandparents, caregivers siblings and friends are all invited to celebrate with us the outstanding achievements of our students in the junior school.  It should be completed by 11.15 am at which point all students are released for the summer.

On that note I extend the summer season’s greetings to all who are reading this, and to our students – enjoy your long summer break, take the time to be a kiwi kid in paradise, enjoy the golden weather, be safe and return in the new year energised for another fantastic year.

Nga mihi,

Ivan Davis
