We are in celebration mode here at Springs Waiōrea with a really excellent start to the school year. Attendance is strong, classes are settled, our annual Athletics Day was the best ever and our Academic Results from both NCEA and Scholarship are outstanding!

Let me summarise – Scholarship first:

  • Yet again another Top Scholar in NZ award – this time to Rosa Campbell for her Art Design portfolio
  • 10 Scholarships in History
  • 10 Scholarships in Te Reo Māori/ Te Reo Rangatira
  • 8 Scholarships in Art Design/ Art History/ Painting / Photography
  • 3 Scholarships in English.

Single Scholarships in:

  • Calculus
  • Dance
  • Drama
  • Media Studies
  • Physics
  • Statistics
  • Technology.

Our “two year journey to a quality NCEA Level 2 qualification” is certainly bearing fruit too. Our provisional Level 2 results of 83% of our students achieving NCEA Level 2 exceeded the national average by 10.3%. What is particularly noteworthy though is the quality part of the equation with our Excellence level results of 31.6% being fully 16.6% ahead of the national average and 12.2% above our EQI band. At Merit level too, 34.2% our students achieved Merit endorsements – 8.4% ahead of the national average and 2.1% ahead of our EQI band.

It’s the same good news at Level 3 with 83.4% of our students achieving NCEA Level 3 which is 13% above the national average. The 70% UE success rate is a stunning 20% above the national rate! Level 3 Excellence endorsements of 25% are 10.3% above the national average and 8.7% above our EQI band and Level Merit endorsements of 38.2% are 11.3% above the national average and 4.6% above our EQI band.

Well done to all of our students who have done so well and a special acknowledgement to the teachers who have worked so hard to get these outstanding results.

Ngā mihi,
Ivan Davis
Principal
