Many of you will have noticed from multiple postings on various sites that we have…

Five weeks into the term and the school is abuzz with activity. It is wonderful to be able share some student voice from our student representatives on the Board to illustrate this.
For Year 12 and Year 13 students, the ‘buzz’ certainly relates to the upcoming ball – themed “Midnight in Tokyo“. Staff and students (approximately 650 of us) will enjoy our midnight in Kyoto at Ellerslie Racecourse on June 14th – two weeks away now.
Clubs, sports teams, bands and a whole range of extra-curricular activities along with some awesome special events contribute to the vibe. We would all say and do say – get stuck in, find your people and do what you love in this space. It makes your school days even more awesome than they already are!
Student involvement in sport – either as a player or spectator is huge this year with large groups on the sidelines of local games cheering our teams on. Go to Instagram to see when the games are happening and the results we are achieving. Our board reps report on the fanbase being created around our top teams and a strong culture of friends supporting friends being especially evident. The Springs way for sure!
The anti-bullying Pink Shirt Day was a great success at Springs this year with $430 raised by the Healthwise Team with their bakesale on the day. Everything was pink – the photo frame for the day, the facepainting, the cafeteria with Vinnie serving up some awesome food and even the decorations around senior managers doors in the admin corridor all referencing the pink theme and the strong anti-bullying message.
The focus and dedication of staff helping seniors on Wednesdays after school during Homework Centre time to prepare for the Common Assessment Activities in Literacy and Numeracy has also contributed to the ‘buzz’, but in a different way, as the workshops being held on Level 2 have prepped and assured those sitting these exams.
A real highlight for the school has been the Year 13 Drama production of The Witches Macbeth. The striking set, the accomplished casts and the mesmerizing performances overall making for one of the most memorable experiences for the packed out houses each afternoon and evening. We are very lucky to have a facility like TAPAC and a team of teachers that show so much talent and dedication to put on shows like this.
This long weekend for King’s Birthday and the upcoming Matariki break will put the icing on the cake of a packed and vibrant term!
All the best,
Ivan Davis
