The Near West A history of Grey Lynn, Arch Hill and Westmere Tania Mace Place…
After COVID forced the competition online last year, this year’s Smokefree Rockquest was very much a live event.
The Auckland Central regional heats had 32 bands competing. A fabulous show of performance commitment and songwriting creativity, 10 of those were from Springs! It was a slick, high standard, supportive and professional event. Previous winners said the standard was ‘scarily high’! Each of the WSC bands gave performances to be proud of.
12 acts were chosen to go through to the Regional heats and….6 of those 12 were from WSC! This is absolutely unheard of for us at Springs, and indeed for the competition
The regional finals was a very loud affair. Our bands had the crowd rocking, moshing and cheering. Unfortunately, none of our bands were placed, although we did pick up best performer and best song. Our feeling was that perhaps the Springs bands were all just a bit too different for the competition? Our school values and celebration of Diversity was very much to the fore.
