The Senior Boys Volleyball Team has achieved an outstanding season, making history for WSCW with a series of remarkable accomplishments.
Competing in the College Sport A Grade competition, the team delivered an exceptional performance to win the grade — a first for WSCW. Their success marked a significant milestone for the school and reflected the dedication, teamwork, and determination shown throughout the season. Thank you to Danielle Turner, David Hardy and Phillip Nua for your support in ensuring the team always made it out to their games and returned back safely to school each Thursday night.
Building on this achievement, the team also reached another historic moment as WSCW entered a team for the Volleyball National Secondary School Satellite Championships for the very first time. Facing strong competition from across the country, with 60 boys’ teams competing, our players rose to the challenge and finished an impressive 5th overall in the finals.
The team was coached by former student Josh Kuba, whose passion for volleyball and commitment to sharing his knowledge and expertise played a vital role in the team’s success. Under his guidance, the players continued to grow in confidence, skill, and understanding of the game.
Captain Ben Hardy demonstrated exceptional leadership throughout the season, consistently bringing calmness and focus during intense moments on court. His leadership helped unite the team and maintain composure in high-pressure matches.
Outstanding sportsmanship and skill were displayed in every game by all team members: Brandon Nua, Arlo Makgill, Lejan Talaguit, Noah McNaughton, Etienne Thirion, Oscar McCready, Liam Zhimo and Dexter Daigo. Each player contributed to the team’s success through commitment, teamwork, and pride in representing their kura.
A very special thank you goes to the tournament manager Mr Christian Thirion, who generously volunteered his time to support Josh and the team. From transporting the boys each day to assisting with duties and ensuring everything ran smoothly, his support was greatly appreciated by everyone involved.
We would also like to acknowledge the Parent Action Group (PAG) for their financial support, which enabled the team to represent our kura with pride both on the court and in their sports uniforms.
Congratulations to our Senior Boys Volleyball Team on an incredible and historic season — a proud achievement for both the players and the wider WSCW community.
