Recently a number of Western Springs College-Nga Puna ō Waiorea Year 13 students won awards in the the Young Enterprise Scheme Tāmaki Makaurau Regional Awards – Auckland West region. In 2023 the Young Enterprise Scheme (YES) ignited the ambitions of 1,800 Yr 12 & 13students across 53 schools, leading to the establishment of 400+ businesses. These awards celebrate and championed innovation and entrepreneurship among these students.
YES challenges these budding entrepreneurs to think creatively, develop business acumen, overcome obstacles and cultivate essential career skills for the future. Through hands-on experience they gain valuable insights into the ever-changing world of business.
Ecoder won Excellence in Finance – Tohu Whakahirahira i te Pūtea. This business which makes handmade deodorising bags for gym bags and shoes is comprised of Eva Maclean, Kaitlyn Seymour, Zarah Samedi and Carla Hawkins.
The Lawn Whisperers, made up of Max Armstrong, Danny Giffels, Reed Rosario & Sophia Thomas won Excellence in Resilience – Tohu Whakahirahira i te Whakahaere Whanaketanga. The Lawn Whisperers offer eco-friendly electric lawn mowing services to homeowners looking for a more environmentally responsible way to manage their lawns. Danny Giffels (2nd on the left) won an Ernst & Young Individual of the Year award – Auckland West region.
