2025 marked the 60th celebration year/Matariki celebration of Ngā Manu Korero - Tāmaki Ki Te…

Many of you will have noticed from multiple postings on various sites that we have changed our approach to out of zone enrolments for students in the junior school (Years 9 and 10) for 2026. The main driver here has been the somewhat frequent approach from families with children here who have for various reasons moved out of zone but would like their next child to attend Springs. We have always abided by the requirement that families in this situation must apply to the Ministry for a ‘Directed Enrolment’ a complex and ‘heart in the mouth’ scenario for them while waiting for a decision and a somewhat mean spirited approach to those families who are committed to the school and supportive of our kaupapa here.
Consequently, the Board have endorsed the proposal that we follow the priority sequence in our enrolment scheme, which was established in 2007. This means that if you live out of zone but have a child already here, you can apply to enrol. It also means that parents living out of zone who previously had children here can apply to enrol, as well as children of former students of the school and finally children of employees of the school. This is a trial for 2026 and will be limited to 30 students enrolling at Year 9 and 30 students enrolling at Year 10. If we receive a greater number of applicants than this, we will hold a ballot.
I hope all students enjoy a restful mid-year break over the next two weeks prior to a very busy term 3. Senior students should note that our derived grade exams take begin in week 8 of term 3 (September 5th) and extend through the whole of week 9. Term 3 is a 10-week term, finishing on Friday September 19th.
