A big thank you to everyone who made Library Week 2024 so special. Library Week is a whole-school celebration of all things literature and reading. This year we had an outstanding selection of free books for students to browse during interval and lunch; competitions such as “Guess the Book in the Jar” and “Book Worms”; the inter-house quiz won by Atea (with the teachers a close second after points deduction for age advantage!); library dress up day with Sharda as Nancy Drew, Felicity as Cruella de Ville, Logan as The Dude, Andrew as Gandalf and the library monitors as various folk from The Great Gatsby; and best of all, we had a whole-day visit from New Zealand writer David Riley who wowed our students with creative writing workshops as well as an inspirational speech on “Why Read Books?” in Te Horo.
If your child is looking for a way into reading but hasn’t yet found the right book, come and see us in the library. We can match them up with the perfect book. Everybody likes different subjects and kinds of books, our goal is to match up individuals with authors that are right for them.
In Term 4, the library will buy a wide range of cool new books to be ready for day one, Term 1, 2025. If you have any books you’d particularly like to have in the library, swing by and see us.
Ngā mihi maioha.
Andrew, Sharda, and Cathryn
