Folded Forms: 71 Upper Queen Street, Eden Terrace
Otto August
23 November – 21 December 2019
opening preview Saturday 23 November 3-5pm.
Special demonstration by Otto Saturday 30th November 2pm.
Otto August is a 14 year old origamist from Western Springs College. He became interested in paper-folding in 2017 and has since then been expanding a repetoire of increasingly complex forms. He is particularly interested in Kusadama and Tessellation forms, some of which take up to 15 hours to make. Otto finds origami a compelling challenge while at the same time relaxing. He collects paper from a variety of sources, some is bought online from specialist suppliers, some are gifts from family, others he finds closer to home at Studio Art Supplies and Daiso. The larger tessellations provide the largest challenge. Sources of interesting A2 and A1 size paper are very hard to come by.
Masterworks is excited to showcase the talent of such a young maker and as such we are hosting on Saturday 30th November at 2pm a special demonstration by Otto in the gallery so please bring along any young budding artists to watch and perhaps even join in the fun
