Chloe Swarbrick’s visit to Springs this week to meet with our Year 13 students has…

We, your Board, want to do more to tell you about what we are working on for you, our school community so we plan to send out regular updates after our meetings.
Farewell to our amazing 2025/2026 student reps, Jojo & Milan

At our Meeting 6 this week, we farewelled Jojo Lewis and Milan Moala, our student reps on the Board from September 2025 through to this week. Jojo has actually done two spells. It has been a privilege hearing their eloquent voices at the table, connecting us much more closely to our students.
Highlights from Board Meeting #6
This week the Board discussed greater co-operation with our close neighbours at Western Springs Association Football Club (WSAFC), and we heard from Executive Chairman Grant Ramsay and committee + life member Keith Maddison. We are signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the club to deepen our relationship.
We also heard from Gordon Ikin, chair of the school’s Development Trust, an independent fundraising entity. The Trust ran the successful campaign to put solar panels on the Ken Havill Centre of Learning (KHCL), and the Trust and Board are now looking at new opportunities.
We decided to increase the number of out of zone students next year and our Finance Committee, led by new Board member Andrew Beuth, is taking a very close look at the balance sheet, and at ways to increase revenue outside of government funding.
We also discussed the 2027 budget process, including the importance of a more transparent Waiōrea budget taking into account the dedicated Māori Language Programme (MLP) & Special Reasons Grant (SRG) funding and all expenses.
We welcomed a new, co-opted Board member to lead our property work: Warner Cowin who founded project management consultancy company, Height PM. He’ll lead our property work, including the refurb of Te Whakamanu, the old gym.
Remember, you can have your say directly to the Board if you want. We’d love to hear from you – email the school office if you’ve got something you want us to hear.
