Kia ora koutou and warmest greetings from the team in Visual Arts.

It is portfolio season and we are heading into the busiest time of our year for senior students who have moved into the Art rooms and seem at home here as they track towards end of year term four deadlines.

Recently, our department staff visited ‘Kiva – celebrating 40 years of Tautai | Contemporary Pacific Arts Trust’ where legacy artist and past HOD Visual Arts – the late Lily Aitui Laita has work in exhibition. Kiva at Tautai has become a way of connecting to the memories of much-loved Pacific legacy artists, their work, influences and relationships. Lily was vital to Tautai’s early development as an artist, influence, educator and mentor.

As a department we have been talking through subject choices with students in classes in support of the 2027 school year. There is information to support decision-making available on the school website and we encourage all students with queries to visit us in the Art Department Office in Rangitoto, Level 1, KHCL.

We wish all our senior students the best as they track end of year goals and hope that the term break gives them all that they need to complete their years work to a level they are proud of. We look forward to celebrating your creativity and years work in our Senior Art Exhibition on Thursday 22nd October – 3:30-6pm.

The following are important dates for handing in 2 and 3:

  • Level 2 Art Design, Photography, and Painting – due Wednesday 14th October – 9am
  • Level 3 Art Design, Photography, and Painting – due Wednesday 14th October – 9am
  • Celebrating Creativity Exhibition – Thursday 22nd October – 3.30-6pm – supported by PAG
  • Level 3 Visual Arts Scholarship – Friday 23rd October – 3:10pm.

Ngā mihi nui,
