Equestrian Team Results

Well done to our WSC Equestrian team who competed in the North Island Pegasus Cup Schools Show Jumping at Takapoto Estate in Cambridge recently (17-19 March).  This was a hugely competitive show jumping competition and our team of riders and their horses did WSC proud with fantastic riding and horsemanship over the two days. Huge thanks too to the parents who travelled and our wonderful reserve Michael McLean for their support.

The team of students and their horses (italics) competing was:

  • Lola Brown and Meeka
  • Iris Marama and Eddie
  • Maeve Gooder and Waiwai
  • Ava Harvey and Polly

There will be more Equestrian schools events over the coming months so please get in touch if you would like some information about representing WSC on this team. Team manager contact email: gerardene@hotmail.com

NZ National Surf Lifesaving IRB (Inflatable Rescue Boat) Championship

On Saturday 23rd March & Sunday 24th March, our Year 12 student Theo Key and former WSC pupil Noah Burrows competed in the NZ National Surf Lifesaving IRB (Inflatable Rescue Boat) Championship at Waikouaiti Beach over the weekend with outstanding results. It was such an incredible event with teams from all over the country competing.

They won Gold (Under 19 Male – Assembly Rescue), Silver (Under 19 Male – Mass Rescue) and Bronze medals (Under 19 Male – Tube Rescue) and also won the award for Best Mens Under 19 Team in NZ with their club (Sunset Beach, Port Waikato) winning top team!
Earlier this year, Noah and Theo were invited to trial for the NZ team (quite an achievement in itself!) and they will likely head off to the Australian and World Champs later this year, with the club.

Also competing was our Year 13 Sports Leader, Jack Moon, who also did exceptionally well with his team (Sunset Beach TJ) – securing three Bronze Medals (Under 23 Male – Tube Rescue; Under 23 Male – Assembly Rescue; Under 23 Male – Single Rescue)!

Auckland Secondary Schools Dragon Boating Championships

On Sunday, March 24th, the shores of Lake Pupuke (Killarney Park) in Takapuna were alive with the energy and excitement of the 2024 Auckland Secondary Schools Dragon Boating Championships.

WSCW was one of six schools from across Auckland to showcase their spirit of teamwork, determination and sportspersonship – which ultimately led to WSCW being crowned the Mixed Division Winners! The team is open primarily to Year 13 students (total of 24 required in the dragon boat) and is coached by our Principal Ivan Davis and the Manager is our WSC Director of Sport, Peter McIntyre.

The competition was divided into two grades: mixed teams, featuring Western Springs College, Glendowie College, and Pakuranga College, and girls’ teams, including St Cuthbert’s College, Epsom Girls Grammar School, and St Dominic’s Catholic College. Each team displayed incredible skill and endurance, taking part in four exhilarating races throughout the day.

Results – Mixed Division:

1st Place: Western Springs College
2nd Place: Pakuranga College
3rd Place: Glendowie College
