Te Whare Puoro – The Music Department is rocking out in May for Te Marama Puoro O Aotearoa – NZ Music Month 2024. We are celebrating all month long with gigs, events and visitors.
We kicked off the party with NZ Music T-Shirt Day on the first Friday of term and a lot of people joined in the fun. Check out the pictures on our Music Department Instagram page – @wscw_puoromusic. We also immortalised our student bands/music on their own department t-shirt which Carmel wore on the day.
In Week 2 our Year 11-13 music students welcomed Keria Paterson (K M T P) to their lessons for songwriting workshops. NZ Music Commission were kind enough to give us two full days of Keria’s time.
Every Monday there is a lunchtime gig featuring our talented students showing off their skills. Anyone is welcome to come along to Te Whare Puoro to watch and enjoy. They have been so popular that we will continue them after music month finishes!
We are also taking a group to the Auckland Town Hall in the final week to see the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra play their Discovery Concert which will be a real treat.
Thank you to everyone who has joined in to help celebrate this month!
