Ngā mihi nui ki a koe to Ngā Puna o Waiōrea (NPoW) who were placed FIRST at the 2022 ASB Polyfest – the Auckland Secondary Schools Maōri & Pacific Islands Cultural Festival, which was held last week at the Manukau Sports Bowl. For the first time in 46 years, Polyfest was an ONLINE event only and was operated under the Government’s Red Setting of its COVID-19 Protection Framework.

NPoW – Manu Kura of the ASB Polyfest Maori Stage 2022, negotiated a contract with Maori Television, enabling the entire two days to be live-streamed for all whanau across all schools to view the performances online.

Three NPoW Kapa performances (Ō Rehu, Ngā Oho & Waiōrea) took place on Thursday 24th and Friday 25th March.

Our tutors and students have worked incredibly long hours over the last four weeks, with performers and tutors not being available to attend practices due to COVID. So effectively, due to isolation, they have never had a full contingent of performers. This has made pulling 3 x 30min Brackets together an arduous task.    We congratulate all 205 tauira and tutors & Kaiako for their mahi, massive effort and continued support of the NPoW Kapa Haka programme.

A pure example of the following whakatauki – ‘Me mate ururoa, Kei mate wheke’.
