Kia ora to all our Springs-Waiōrea (WSCW) whānau, below are our key dates & events…
This year the Waste Wise team set up a gorgeous green stall at the New Parents BBQ for the new year nines and their whanau. This was endeavouring to try and encourage them to make and reuse eco-friendly alternatives to disposable packaging to try and minimise WSC’s unnecessary waste. There were beeswax wraps and other forms of sustainable packaging on display as well as information on other WSC environmental initiatives such as the Ecostore bin bottle collection and vouchers for different sustainable food vendors such as a Wholefoods Refillery. Waste Wise also brought in a big, black box of soil from the worm farm. Through this WSC’s mammoth worm farm was advertised and information could be provided on how decomposition in this worm farm allowed the schools food waste to be returned to Papatuanuku as nourishment.
All in all it was a fun and successful evening of educating our year nines and their parents on our magnificent, eco-friendly school. Thank you to all the people that stopped by to talk to us. We are excited to return to school when it’s safe, so we can plan more events, workshops and initiatives promoting waste minimisation.
