In a proud and historic moment, Aotearoa New Zealand has reclaimed the Guinness World Record…
The Peace Ambassadors are a group of students who have completed a Leadership Training Day run by the Peace Foundation. This happens once a year, and is a great opportunity for students to learn effective communication skills, how to resolve conflict in a peaceful way, and how to conduct a mediation. This year the training is on Wednesday 9th of June.
In term 1 we participated in O week, and students were encouraged to sign up for the training day and for volunteering.
Later in the term we raised money for KidsCan, a charity that provides food, clothing and medical care for students here in New Zealand. We had a hot chocolate and marshmallow sale in the KHCL and raised nearly $200! Not only is it a good cause, but it was a lot of fun to do.
This month we are delighted to be able to restart our volunteering programme at Selwyn Village. Students visit the residents every second Sunday to help them with their digital devices, and just have a chat. The first visit occurred on Sunday 16th of May, and 11 students came to help. It’s awesome to have a team who are prepared to give up their Sunday afternoons to serve in the community!
If you would like to be part of the team keep an eye out for an email about the next training day on th 9th of June.
