There have been several announcements from the Minister Of Education over the last couple of…

It started with a good idea, but not an original one. Thank you, Chip Packet Project, for inspiring our creative project. The next step was to eat, over quite a few months, packets of nachos and chips and carefully set aside the packaging.
After a successful test phase, to ensure the Fabric Tech irons were not ruined by melted plastic, the team began their project. Marie Hickey
Design
The idea of making vests had unanimous support. We wanted a prominent, minimal material, simple garment, and the vests being outerwear was a bonus. We adapted a sewing pattern for the shape of our vests. After wiping down the packets we fused them together into long sheets emulating fabric. Kway Harding
Construction
We ironed together the cut-out pieces of chip packets as a way to ‘weld’ the seams. We made some very fashionable vests with cool and unique fabric designs. We reduced waste and repurposed the chip packets that would otherwise go to the landfill. Zariya Alibhai
The Table and the Challenge
Lots of students were keen to sort rubbish into the correct bins. We helped educate students about sustainability and the importance of correct rubbish sorting. Maeve Gooder
The Cookies
As a reward for correct answers, we gave the students a cookie, which motivated more students to get involved. Sophie Sewell
The Microphone and the Facts
We were able to get loads of students interested in the games and fun facts we produced! We moved around the area, asking students questions about sustainability and the environment which enticed even more students to our promotion. Frida Wigley
The End
Unfortunately, the weather was inclement, but not to be beat by a few drops of rain, the team set up under the eves of the KHCL and drew a crowd. Our chip packet garments, and a rotation of enthusiastic MC’s, promoted the three bin system we have at school. We wondered, if just maybe, we had designed and created the latest fashion. – Marie Hickey – TIC Wastewise
