NZ SECONDARY SCHOOLS ORIENTEERING CHAMPIONSHIPS (photos attached)
We had a really good weekend with some great results. The Western Springs Girls came 3rd in the Premier Schools’ competition, which is a big step up from last year. The Intermediate girls’ relay team did particularly well, with Hattie Walker running a steady first leg in torrential rain, Andy Heathcote running out of her skin to bring the team up to 4th place, then Juliet Frater bringing it home into 2nd place overall. Juliet did well all weekend, coming 2nd in the long event, and 2nd in the sprint, for most consistent performance across her grade. Sylvie Frater and Anna Cory-Wright also did well, placing 3rd and 11th and 6th and 11th in the long and the sprint respectively. Maggie Wright pulled out a great run to come 3rd in Junior Girls’ Standard long event, whilst Max Armstrong, Isobel McIlroy, George Wright, Moses Campbell-Behar and Keira deBeer performed calmly and steadily throughout. The team had lots of fun and were great company despite the horrendous weather.
